Hey, I'm Adam

I'm a software engineer (and math hobbyist on the side) living in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

I like designing clean architectures and building tools that actually make day-to-day work easier. Right now I'm working on Piper , a flexible database migration tool.

When I'm not coding, you'll probably find me at the piano or singing. Music is my other outlet, where structure and freedom get to share the room.

Specialties

I work backend-first, thinking in systems, architecture, and the engineering decisions that make software hold together.

Backend & product engineering

Most of my work happens on the server side: APIs, domain logic, data models, integrations, and the infrastructure that ties everything together. I build systems with an emphasis on clarity, reliability, and the ability to evolve without falling apart.

Distributed systems

This is core to how I work: services talking over the network, partial failure, consistency trade-offs, and the operational mess that comes after. Distributed systems are chaotic, so I design them to be understandable first, and boring where it counts.

Developer tools

I like building tools that make other developers faster: libraries, CLIs, frameworks, internal tooling, and the pieces that remove friction from everyday engineering. Good developer tools should stay out of the way, make the right thing easier, and solve a problem without creating three more.

Frontend engineering

I ship frontend too. Visual design isn't my strongest suit, but state management, data flow, component structure, and wiring UI to real backends? That's where I'm comfortable. I aim for clear and maintainable over flashy.

I Like to Write, Too

Not everything I build starts with code.

Sometimes I just have an idea that I can't stop thinking about and writing is how I work through it. I enjoy taking things I've experienced, learned, or disagreed with and turning them into something worth sharing.

I write about engineering, technology, AI, developer culture, and the assumptions we often take for granted. Sometimes that means breaking down how a system works. Other times, it means questioning why we build things the way we do in the first place.

Code is how I build things. Writing is how I make sense of them.
